          Mike Dillon, Jr. was born at Fort Bragg, N.C. where his father, Mike, was in the Special Forces of the U.S. Army.  A green beret, Mike Sr., served three tours of duty in Vietnam receiving both the Silver Star and the Bronze Star medals for heroic service to his country.  He left the U.S. Army soon after Mike Jr. was born to rejoin the family in Northern Nevada where he taught with the Army National Guard and opened up a janitorial business with his brothers Tom and Ken.  Mike Sr. passed away in 1996 and Mike’s mother, Michelle "Mickey" Arrington Dillon passed away in 1980.  

            Raised in Northern Nevada, Mike attended Hunter Lake, Agnes Risley, Libby Booth, and Jesse Beck elementary schools, Swope Middle School, and graduated from Reno High School.  Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and his teaching accreditation from the University of Nevada.  Mike was recognized as the “Outstanding Young Alumni” in 2004 by the Alumni Association.  He remains an avid supporter of the University of Nevada building relationships with students, the community and alumni.  Mike received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, Nevada campus in 2004. 

            Mike is engaged to be married to Siobhan McAndrew and lives in Northwest Reno near McQueen High School where he was a history teacher and coach. Being the grandson of Congressman Barbara Vucanovich gave Mike an early introduction into Republican politics in Northern Nevada.  Beginning at the age of 10, Mike worked on every Congressional campaign for his grandmother from the early 1980’s through 1996.

            Mike is licensed in the states of Nevada and California for Health & Life Insurance, and holds a State of Nevada teaching license for secondary education. Currently Mike owns and operates Dillon Insurance Services. He is also Community Relations Director for the Builders Association of Northern Nevada (BANN). Prior to operating this business, Dillon was a teacher, basketball and golf coach, and partner in education coordinator at McQueen High School.

            Mike’s extensive community involvement includes serving on the Education Collaborative Board of Directors, building partnerships with the business community and K-16 education.  As a business owner and a former teacher he is eager to champion the cause of connecting businesses and public schools in Washoe County in its purpose to provide volunteers, materials and financial support for school/business partnerships, workforce development via school-to-career activities and a donation/recycling warehouse for use by educators.

           The Academy for Career Education (ACE) Charter High School is a comprehensive, charter/engineering high school for 10th-12th grade students in which Mike serves on the Board of Directors.  ACE is an award winning local trade school where students build a house each year, performing the work themselves, as well as a Diesel Mechanics/Small Engines program.  The academics are integrated with the activities they perform on the job site, making learning relevant. 

          As Club Service Chairman, in the Reno Central Rotary Club, Mike will continue to lead the organization in community service activities in Reno.  He is also founder and chairman of the Aaron Arnoldsen Memorial golf tournament which has raised over $137,000 for an endowment that provides scholarships for Nevada students in need that would like to attend the University of Nevada.  He is a Junior Achievement Career Coach which teaches students how to run a business.  Additionally, he is Past President and was recognized as “Member of the Year” in 2002 of the Reno Active 20-30 Club, a philanthropic group of young professionals that raises money for needy children including providing funds that go toward two annual clothing shopping trips for 100 students at Echo Loder Elementary School every year.  

           Mike serves on the Camp Galilee Foundation Board of Directors, formed to raise money to preserve the land and children’s camp on Lake Tahoe and remains active as a member of the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce in which he graduated from the Leadership Reno-Sparks program, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, Northern Nevada Human Resources Association, Nevada State Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and Northern Nevada Association of Health Underwriters. Mike is a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno.
